A science fiction flying car looks like a normal car, but it is an aircraft (飞行器) that anybody can fly directly from any place to another without using roads or runways. Science fiction writers have written

I will never forget my experiences in the United States. I went to an American college a year ago. Yet I did not know the real American society until I was hurt in a car accident because after the accident I had to see a doctor and go to court(法院).

After the accident, my roommate called a doctor for me. I was very grateful and decided to repay him

one day. But the next day, he asked me to pay him $200 for what he had done. I was amazed. He had good reason to charge me, he said. And if I wanted to collect money from the person who was responsible(负有责任的) for my accident, I’d have to have a good lawyer. And only a good doctor can help me get a good lawyer. Now that he had helped me find a good doctor, it was only fair that I should pay him. But every day I went to see the doctor, I had to wait about 50 minutes. He would see two or three patients at the same time, and often stop treating one so as to see another. Yet he charged me $115 each time. The final examination report consisted of ten lines, and it cost me $215. My lawyer was all smiles the first time we met. But after that he avoided seeing me at all. He knew very well the other party was responsible for the accident, yet he hardly did anything. He simply waited to collect his money. He was so irresponsible that I decided to refuse his help. And he made me pay him $770.

Now I had to act as my own lawyer. I told the insurance(保险)company the date I was leaving America because of my inexperience(缺少经验). Knowing that, they played for time and I left without getting a cent.

My experiences taught me two things about America: firstly, in a country like America money is everything. It is more important than friendship, honor or professional morality. Secondly, foreigners are still being unfairly treated. So when we talk about America, we should see both its good and bad sides. 41. The writer’s roommate offered to help him because________. C. he knew the doctor was a very good one D. he wanted the writer to have a good lawyer

42. A good lawyer is important for the writer to __________. A. be well treated by the doctor

B. talk with the person responsible for the accident C. get what he should pay for his injury D. get well before he leaves that country.

43. Both the doctor and the lawyer in this passage are very__________. A. selfish B. friendly

C. rude

D. busy

44. The underlined word “charge” in the second paragraph means ______. A. 职责

B. 掌管

C. 索价

D. 命令

45. What conclusion can you draw from the story? A. Going to court is something very common in America. B. One must be very careful while driving a car.

C. Money is more important than other things in the US. D. There are more bad sides in America than good sides.

Who is the most famous fairy tale writer? Many of you may say Danish writer Hans Christian Andersen. There is a big award that takes his name: the Hans Christian Andersen Award(国际安徒生奖). It is the highest award for children’s stories. A writer can only get it once in a lifetime.

On April 4, Cao Wenxuan won the 2016 Hans Christian Andersen Award. He is the first Chinese writer to ever win this important award for children’s literature.

Cao Wenxuan was born in 1954 in a small village in Yancheng, Jiangsu Province. Some of his stories are set there. He is now a professor at Peking University. He started to publish children’s fiction in 1979. Many of his novels have been translated into English, French, Japanese and Korean.

If you read Cao’s stories, you will find beautiful and poetic descriptions of scenery. For example, in The Grass House (1997), Cao writes, “The grass grows toughly. When the sun shines, the grass shines like copper wire (铜线). When the wind blows from the sea, the grass makes surprisingly metal-like sounds. ”

Cao also uses love as a theme in his stories, and he describes it with great beauty. You can find this theme in Bronze and Sunflower (《青铜葵花》) (2005). The ending of the story is sad, but it helps make the story more realistic. “Sadness is a beautiful emotion. It helps kids understand the real world when it is expressed properly, ” Cao once said.

When Cao created a story, he does not write specifically for someone. Adults can find beauty in his stories, and the plots he invents tend to impress children. “I tell real Chinese stories, but my stories relate to (关联) humans. This might be a key reason why I won this award, ” he said. (No more than 6 words)
